ZTL in Florence

Limited Traffic Zone in Florence

Florence’s Limited Traffic Zone was established in 1990 and to date covers an area of approximately 4 km2 out of 48 km2 of built-up area, for a total of 10.11 m2/inhabitant and is currently controlled by 20 telematic gates. The gates are fitted with Autostrade per l’Italia S.p.A telepass technology equipment that interacts with an on-board device (Telepass ZTL – only for the Florence ZTL – or Telepass Autostradale enabled also for the Florence ZTL at SAS Offices) in the possession of those entitled to transit in accordance with the current Mobility Acts.

Within the Florence ZTL area, pedestrian areas are identified where access is always forbidden to motor vehicles except as identified in the specific Mobility Acts. The Pedestrian Areas have daily opening hours for loading and unloading operations by residents and entitled persons. The Pedestrian Areas may be protected by chains or retractable mobile bollards (Pilomat).
